2007  rebuild, more power and speed!

CheepShot 3.0 has been quite a successful bot, winning many fights and capturing the 2006 national championship.  It has proven near unbeatable against spinners but has done less well against other wedges and flippers.

One problem has been a relative lack of speed and power and the other has been directional stability where it has shown a reluctance to drive in a straight line.

I tried to find suitable motors for fitting onto the existing Harbor Freight gearboxes but was unable to find anything with the required rpm/volt that would give a reasonable increase in speed over the current 8 mph. An advert for a 24v cordless drill from a local auto part store caught my eye and it looked like this might be the basis for a new drivetrain.  The drill uses a much bigger speed 700  motor (the existing ones are speed 550s) and  had a 1200rpm top speed rather the 900rpm of the HFs.

One of the new 24v gearmotors next to one of the existing Harbor Freight versions. It is quite a bit larger and weighs 1.4lb as opposed to 1lb.

Solidworks was used to model the new motors in the standard CS3 chassis. The blue block is a model of a 2200mAH 11.1v 3S LiPo pack. Two of these in series should provide the voltage needed.

A Scorpion XXL (basically an XL with a second set of FETs added) will provide the current required.
